American University's Master of Science in Statistics is an excellent way to further your quantitative education, learn modern statistical methods, and gain professional skills for a broad variety of careers in industry, government, and emerging data-driven fields such as artificial intelligence and machine learning. The program also prepares students for doctoral study or for advancing their careers through deeper analytical expertise.
In this program, students develop proficiency in the theory, development, research, and application of statistical tools to turn data and ideas into intelligent, informed actions. Core coursework emphasizes probability, statistical inference, machine learning, modeling, and computation - the foundational concepts on which modern AI and modern data-driven technologies are built.
Incoming students may qualify for financial awards, including Graduate Assistantships and Research Assistantships, providing opportunities to gain hands-on experience in research, data analysis, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
The Statistics MS program offers two tracks - see details at Admission & Course Requirements- to help students align their coursework with their intellectual interests and career goals:
The Theory and Methods concentration provides rigorous preparation in statistical foundations and methodology, equipping graduates for professional positions in quantitative fields, data science and AI-related roles, and doctoral programs in statistics or related disciplines.
The Biostatistics concentration is an interdisciplinary program that offers a combination of solid Statistics, Biology, and Biostatistics knowledge and skills and prepares students for quantitative careers in medical, biopharmaceutical and public health areas as well as PhD programs in related fields. Whichever track you follow, AU's MS in Statistics is your key to success.
This program is designated as a STEM degree program.
